Welcome to The Space Force!!

We got this fun surprise text from Eli today!!!

He was accepted into the U.S. Space Force! He interviewed way back in January and he finally got the call! We are ecstatic!!!

13 Cadets (including Eli) applied from his detachment and he was the only one selected! They are very selective. This year they had an 8% acceptance rate nation wide (150 total).

The Space Force was created in 2019 making it the newest branch of the armed services in 73 years. It is an off shoot of the Air Force. They are moving their cyber operations there which is what Eli will be a part of. We are so incredibly proud!!

This also makes it more likely that he’ll use his degree in computer programming than not. In the military they don’t guarantee a lot of things. If they have a position that needs to be filled that’s kind of where you get assigned. So this is really great news for Eli!

His uniform will have the “Space Blue” name tape, Space Force badge, and grade insignia. This distinguishes him from the Air Force which uses brown.

I’m always curious where he might end up after he graduates college and AFROTC. These are the current base locations. Looks like Colorado is a high probability with 3 of the 6 being there.

The last pic is from something else he was a part of but it’s the most recent photo I have of him.

They didn’t have a ceremony or take pics at school. They just announced it along with some other business. I was a little sad. I was hoping for a special picture and a little pomp and circumstance for such a big achievement.
