November Volleyball Wrap-up!

Alayna’s team made the Play-in Game for the Playoffs and went down to Tucson and played Catalina Foothills. The sunset was stunning that evening! I love Arizona sunsets! Nothing compares!

On our way into the gym Jared was setting his bleacher chair down and he set it right on top of this hornworm. He didn’t even see him there. Don’t worry…he wasn’t harmed. LOL!

The team played great and won!

So that moved them on to the Playoffs!

Millennium hadn’t lost a single game all season so we knew going in it was going to be tough! They’d lost a couple of sets here and there but ultimately they were undefeated all season.

The girls played their hearts out! Several of the girls played the best they ever had!!! It was so fun to watch them dig deep! They won a set and everyone was so pumped!!!

And then this happened……

Alayna and Jenna (a middle) went up for the block and when Alayna came down Jenna’s leg was under her and she fell hard to the ground.

There is video of this but I can’t watch it. Alayna has an extremely high tolerance for pain and when she fell and didn’t get back up I “knew” it was really bad. My heart just sank and I couldn’t get down to her fast enough to see if she was ok. I was so thankful for Gillian who rushed over to her and tried to comfort her.

They helped her off the court and and rushed down to her. The first thing she said through sobbing tears was, “Club tryouts!!!” Oh man! Of all the things to worry about in that moment that certainly could wait. LOL! Funny how our minds race to different things when we are under stress. The Freshman Coach, Paige, and I tried to settle her mind and tried to just get her focused on healing and getting better.

The Athletic Trainer came out and got her ice and then took us back to the sports medicine room for her to rest and gain her composure and to get a better assessment of the injury.

The team ended up losing to Millennium but it was neat to see as we came out after the game to see the team huddled together sharing positive reflections and funny stories from the season. When the team saw her hobbling over they all turned and cheered for her and hugged her so tight! It was so heartwarming to witness!

Campo has an EXCELLENT Sports Medicine department. Her Trainer, Ms. Julia, happens to be Alayna’s teacher as well. She assessed her the next day and got her on a rehab and physical therapy treatment right away. She said it was a grade 2, high ankle sprain.

Alayna was a model patient and did all of her therapy, exercises, ice baths, and protocols diligently. She healed quicker than expected and was back on the court in a week and a half, just in time for Club Open Houses, which is amazing!

To top it all off Alayna made the Arizona 5A San Tan All-Region 2nd Team (2022)!

Very proud of her determination, grit, and tenacity!!
